34th arrival of severely injured Ukrainian soldiers at East Hospital: assistance and cooperation continue

Today, on 22 January 2026, the Riga East University Hospital (East Hospital) once again joins forces with the charity project M-Help.com – this day marks the 34th arrival of severely injured Ukrainian soldiers in the war started by Russia. Overall, the East Hospital has already admitted 782 patients brought from Ukraine since the outbreak of the war. 34 war victims have made the long journey to Latvia’s largest hospital this time.

The bus carrying Ukrainian soldiers was received by a representative from the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Latvia, Dmytro Kindrys, and the medical team from East Hospital’s Emergency Medicine and Patient Admission Clinic (EMPAC), including Aleksejs Višņakovs, Genādijs Ričards Rusanovs, and Inese Larionova, as well as various specialists and nursing staff.

All patients arriving from Ukraine underwent a thorough health evaluation at the EMPAC, including various laboratory tests and the examination for the possible presence of multidrug-resistant infections, as they can rapidly emerge and spread in wartime conditions. Several injured patients underwent additional radiological examinations by specialists in the Emergency Radiology Department to determine the specifics of their injuries.

Meanwhile, other patients will be transferred to other healthcare facilities in Latvia, depending on the nature of their injuries, after being examined at the EMPAC. Three patients are expected to continue the treatment in the Trauma and Orthopaedics Hospital, another four patients will be transferred to the Vaivari National Rehabilitation Centre, while three patients will be transported to the Līgatne Rehabilitation Centre and 24 patients – to the Jaunķemeri Rehabilitation Centre.

It is the private initiative by the founders of the charity project M-Help.com, Arvis Rekets and Mārtiņš Medinieks, that made it possible to transport the patients affected by the war in Ukraine to East Hospital. Meanwhile, the Georgy Logvinsky Charity Foundation in Ukraine has equipped and renovated a bus used for the transportation of these patients.
