[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Today, on 30\u00a0July\u00a02026, the Riga East University Hospital (East Hospital) once again joins forces with the charity project M-Help.com\u00a0\u2013 this day marks the 41st<\/sup>\u00a0arrival of severely injured Ukrainian soldiers in the war started by Russia. 32\u00a0injured Ukrainian soldiers have made the long journey to Latvia\u2019s largest hospital this time. However, since the outbreak of the war, the East Hospital has already admitted 985\u00a0patients brought from Ukraine. Building on the experience of Latvian healthcare and rehabilitation institutions in the treatment and rehabilitation of patients affected by the war in Ukraine, patient transfers to Latvia will now take place twice a month. Alongside the existing transfer, an additional transfer will be introduced for patients who, following a health assessment at the East Hospital, will be referred for rehabilitation to specialised rehabilitation institutions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The bus carrying Ukrainian soldiers was received by Danylo Kindrys<\/strong>, First Secretary<\/strong> of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Latvia, Juris Nikolajenko, the Medical Director of the East Hospital, and a medical team from the East Hospital\u2019s Emergency Medicine and Patient Admission Clinic<\/strong> (EMPAC), including Aleksejs Vi\u0161\u0146akovs<\/strong>, Ri\u010dards Gen\u0101dijs Rusanovs,<\/strong> Inese Larionova<\/strong>, and various specialists and nursing staff.<\/p>\n

\"\"All patients arriving from Ukraine underwent a thorough health evaluation at the EMPAC, including various laboratory tests and the examination for the possible presence of multidrug-resistant infections, as they can rapidly emerge and spread in wartime conditions. Several injured patients underwent additional radiological examinations by specialists in the Emergency Radiology Department to determine the specifics of their injuries.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, other patients will be transferred to other healthcare and rehabilitation facilities in Latvia, depending on the nature of their injuries, after being examined at the EMPAC.<\/p>\n

After the initial health assessment, nine patients are to be transferred to the Vaivari National Rehabilitation Centre, while four patients will be transported to the L\u012bgatne Rehabilitation Centre and 19\u00a0patients\u00a0\u2013 to the Jaun\u0137emeri Rehabilitation Centre.<\/p>\n

Treating war-injured patients is a collective effort, involving physicians from many different specialties, such as traumatologists, surgeons, microsurgeons, infectious disease specialists, physical and rehabilitation medicine physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, radiologists, and laboratory specialists.<\/p>\n

It is the private initiative by the founders of the charity project M-Help.com, Arvis Rekets and M\u0101rti\u0146\u0161 Medinieks, that made it possible to transport the patients affected by the war in Ukraine to the East Hospital.<\/p>\n

East Hospital conveys its gratitude to the M-Help.com charity project, the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia, and all medical and rehabilitation institutions across Latvia engaged in the care and rehabilitation of patients injured in the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

About the East Hospital\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Riga East University Hospital is the largest and strategically significant multi-profile hospital in the country. The hospital consists of five inpatient facilities\u00a0\u2013 Gai\u013cezers, Latvian Oncology Centre, Bi\u0137ernieki, Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Centre, and Latvian Infectious Diseases Centre, along with various specialised centres and clinics. The hospital provides highly specialised inpatient and secondary outpatient healthcare, offering multidisciplinary tertiary-level treatment and care in line with modern technology and medical knowledge. Approximately 80% of all cancer patients in Latvia are treated at the hospital. It serves as a practical training base for both Latvian educational institutions and foreign students, providing further education and knowledge transfer to healthcare specialists within and beyond the country. The hospital engages in scientific research and develops innovative methods for patient treatment.
